Charles Parmele

Stories forged in fire, truth, and imagination — from ancient blades to distant stars.

Charles Edward Parmele

The son of an Air Force Veteran, Charles was born at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio in the late 1960's. The hospital sat across from the offices of Project Blue Book which led to his family kidding him about being part alien. When his dad retired in 1973 the family first moved to Missouri and then to Florida where he spent most of his formative years.
Growing up, Charles was facinated by science and history, not to mention sci-fiction and fantasy adventures. In the late 1970's his parents bought a set of World Book Encyclopedias which he enjoyed reading. He still has the complete set stored away. As his knowledge grew so did his imagination finding an outlet in doodles on school work and short stories written when his teachers weren't looking. One teacher called in his parents to show them Charles's desk stuffed full of drawings and writings. His parents couldn't understand why it was a big deal because Charles was an intelligent kid. At one time he was considered "Gifted and Talented" by the state of Florida. Charles thinks this says more about Florida than it does about him.
After high school, Charles decided to follow in his father's footsteps and join the military. Instead of of joining the Air Force like his dad he joined the Navy and volunteered for submarines. Why? Charles is afraid of heights and Submarines is as close to being on a spaceship as you are going to get without leaving the ground. He trained as a Navigation Electronics Technician and served on 3 SSBNs, one twice, and as a Naval Instructor teaching others how to do his job. Having his naval career cut short after 11 years by a medical disability Charles settled in Bremerton, Washington because, unlike Florida, it has mountains and the ocean. Now with his interest in sci-fi and fantasy revived he has set out on a new adventure, to write and publish more stories. He just has to dust off the cobwebs.
